McGhee to use Fergie tactics in France

MOTHERWELL manager Mark McGhee says he will take a leaf out of Sir Alex Ferguson's book in order to help his side nullify Nancy in their UEFA Cup tie at the Stade Marcel Picot on Thursday.
He is prepared to adopt the same tactics his old boss employed to help Aberdeen capture the European Cup-Winners' Cup in 1983 in order to keep the tie alive for the return leg at Fir Park.
"The one thing I remember Fergie doing – apart from blasting us – which helped us get a result above our station was when we drew 0-0 away to Bayern Munich in the 1983 quarter-finals," he said.
"We played in a totally different way that night and it was all about keeping possession.
It was probably the best we ever played in terms of the quality of our football. The return was totally different because we turned in a British performance and won 3-2.
But the game in Munich was the big tactical change and that's what I'll be looking for from our side on Thursday. Possession will be the key for us."
Nancy drew 1-1 at Auxerre in the French league last night, Moncef Zerka scoring their equaliser.
