Saints close in on Subotic

ST JOHNSTONE are working on a deal to sign trialist striker Danijel Subotic.

The 22-year-old Croatian, who had a spell at Portsmouth as a youngster, has impressed manager Derek McInnes and the club have confirmed they are looking to sign the player.

The Perth side are now working with Scottish Football Association and Fifa officials in a bid to complete the paperwork so Subotic can sign in time for their Clydesdale Bank Premier League opener at Aberdeen on 23 July.

A statement on the club's official website read: "A three-month stint with Romanian club Universitatea Craiova has muddied the waters in terms of the player's paperwork, but hopes are high that this can be resolved in order that the 22-year-old can be taken on."
