Cycling: Millar up to third place in Giro d'Italia

SCOTLAND'S Garmin rider David Millar has moved up to third place in the general classification at the Giro d'Italia after the seventh stage.

The riders endured a difficult day as they contested the gruelling 222-kilometre haul from Carrar to Montalcino over the white gravel roads of Tuscany in wet conditions.

World road race champion Cadel Evans of BMC powered his way to victory to claim second spot overall behind new leader Alexandre Vinokourov of Astana who took third spot yesterday. Millar came home 1min 31sec down – good enough to gain four places in the overall standings.
