PLAYER ratings by Mark Atkinson.
QUEEN OF THE SOUTH

7 - Gordon Chisholm
Team talk at half-time must have been inspiring. His Queens side came out at the break and went for the jugular right from the whistle.

6 - Jamie MacDonald
On-loan Hearts keeper given ab
solutely no chance with Boyd's thunderbolt but could have done better with Beasley's crucial goal just before the break.

6 - Ryan McCann
Was off the pitch for the first six minutes, receiving treatment after a head knock. Beasley proceeded to cause him more headaches as he tried to deal with the American's pace and direct approach. Replaced by Robertson.

7 - Robert Harris
Wonderful ball in for Thomson from a free kick which restored parity. Competed well with Lee McCulloch and was strong in the tackle. Linked up well with McQuilken in attack. A very composed display.

7 - Jim Thomson
Queens captain was strong in the air against Boyd and Darcheville and grabbed Queens' equaliser with a bullet header. Was at fault, though, in the lead up to Beasley's goal.

7 - Andy Aitken
Much like his captain beside him, Aitken gave his all as he battled manfully with Darcheville and Boyd. Did little wrong throughout and seems to have formed a good understanding with Thomson in the Queens defence.

6 - Paul Burns
Right winger was isolated in the first half but came into the game more 4 - in the second period. Found the going tough against an on-form Papac and attempted to offer McCann defensive cover when the Bosnian attacked.

7 - Steve Tosh
Gave away the free kick that led to Boyd's opener. Did, however, redeem himself after one of his trademark runs from midfield saw him meet O'Connor's cut-back to score with his pelvis.

6 - Neil MacFarlane
Started game well by snuffing out Ferguson and Thomson and was the best player in the first 20 minutes. Struggled to keep control of the midfield against Ferguson and Thomson as the game wore on though.

6 - Jamie McQuilken
Played on the left wing and was a threat with some good deliveries on the left side. Never really tested an out-of-sorts Whittaker, however. Hauled off for Stewart after 76 minutes as Queens chased an equaliser.

6 - Stephen Dobbie
Scored goal at Hampden for Hibs against Rangers in 2004 but never looked like replicating the feat. Always wanting to fetch the ball from midfield. Replaced by O'Neill late on.

7 - Sean O'Connor
Never shirked the physical battle with Weir and Cuellar and did well to evade the Spaniard as he set up Tosh's goal. Will feel aggrieved that he was not awarded a penalty after he was impeded by Whittaker.

SUBTITUTES

4 - John Stewart
Brought on for McQuilken to add pace and a direct threat to goal. Never got a chance to replicate his heroics last time out at Hampden

5 - John O'Neill
Goalscoring midfielder replaced Dobbie after 82 minutes. Made some penetrating runs but could not get into a scoring position.

3 - Scott Robertson
20-year-old was introduced on 85 minutes for Ryan McCann as Queens sought an equaliser. Little time to make an impact, though.

Unused: Stephen Grindlay, Eric Paton.

RANGERS

7 - Walter Smith
Decision to go with two up top and in particular select Kris Boyd paid off. Bringing Beasley back into the side also gave Rangers more pace in attack.

6 - Neil Alexander
Flapped at an early corner and looked unsteady when the ball was in the air, but did well to deny Tosh when through on goal. No chance with either of the Queens goals.

6 - Steven Whittaker
Perhaps lucky to escape giving away a penalty as he eased O'Connor off the ball in the box. Was sloppy in possession as the game wore on and looked tired. Little evidence to suggest he is better than Broadfoot at right-back.

7 - Sasa Papac
Was always willing to support Beasley time and time again. Strong in defence and was unlucky to see raking 30-yard drive deflected over. Has shown himself to be a composed full-back since Walter Smith took over.

7 - David Weir
Veteran found O'Connor a handful, particularly when Queens pushed forward at the start of the second half. Held firm alongside Cuellar as Queens battled to the end.

7 - Carlos Cuellar
Unusually a little nervy in the opening stages, his distribution letting him down in particular. Grew into the game, however, and in the second half saved his side on numerous occasions with last-ditch defending.

5 - Lee McCulloch

Started the game with a crude tackle on Harris, which saw the former Motherwell man booked. Was perhaps fortunate not to see red. After that he remained largely anonymous on the right wing.

7 - Barry Ferguson
Missed a great chance, shooting straight at the keeper from inside the box after an hour. Opted to pass to Fleck rather than shoot late on. Gave his all in the Rangers engine room.

6 - Kevin Thomson
Did little wrong in the first half but found it difficult to cope with Queens surging forward in the second. Failed regularly to beat his first man when delivering from set plays, although he picked up a knock late on.

7 - DaMarcus Beasley
Spurned a glorious chance when sent through by Boyd. Made up for his miss by scoring just before half time and delivering a fine ball for Boyd's second goal. Replaced by Steven Davis as fatigue set in.

6 - Jean-Claude Darcheville
Frenchman's movement and pace caused Thomson and Aitken some problems in the first half but never really looked like scoring. Was taken off with minutes remaining for John Fleck.

8 - Kris Boyd
Marvellous free kick set Rangers on their way. Should have opened the scoring beforehand after sending header wide. Always a threat to the Queens back line and underlined his importance with headed goal in the second half.

SUBTITUTES

5 - Steven Davis
Man on loan from Fulham came on for Beasley after 76 minutes, Full of industry and energy which helped a tired Rangers side.

4 - John Fleck
Replaced Darcheville with five minutes to go and at 16 became the youngest player to appear in a Scottish Cup final. Could have scored late on.

Unused: Graeme Smith, Christian Dailly, Jordan McMillan.
