Islamic group has much to offer
THE article 'Salmond hit by cash for cronies row' (July 13) not only attacked the Scottish Government, but also insinuated that the Scottish-Islamic Foundation was a misrepresentative and false-hearted organisation. I would like to stress that the Scottish Islamic Foundation – an organisation led by young people – is inclusive and diverse with members from all walks of life.
Our board is made up of individuals with wide-ranging political beliefs and our launch was supported on a cross-community, cross-party and inter-faith platform. Moreover, the proposal for IslamFest was submitted after months of widespread consultation. This exhibition will aim to provide a new gateway for engagement between people of different backgrounds, as well as attracting investment and trade into Scotland.
The progressive and cutting-edge approach that SIF has to offer is a far cry from the backward perception that people have of Islam, and Muslims themselves.
Noman Tahir, director of media and marketing, the Scottish-Islamic Foundation, Glasgow
