A SUPER Puma helicopter, operated by CHC Helicopters, was forced to return to base at Aberdeen airport this morning after a warning light came on in the aircraft’s cockpit.

The EC 225 helicopter, with 11 passengers and two crew on board, landed safely shortly after 8.15am.

Emergency services at the airport were placed on alert as a precautionary measure.

A spokeswoman for the helicopter company said: “It was a straight forward non-emergency return to base. The helicopter had just taken off when a caution light came on in the cockpit and the helicopter turned around and came back. This was a non emergency event.”
