Dates announced for steam train tours from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling to Aberdeen this summer – book now

Book now for a summer adventure as much-anticipated dates are announced for exciting steam train journeys across Scotland.

The popular series of summertime steam trains is now in its fifth year and will be making more fantastic memories with nostalgic tours across Scotland from July to September.

About the Aberdonians

Six heritage train journeys from Edinburgh to Aberdeen will run during July and September, with an extra trip from Glasgow and Stirling to Aberdeen in September.

Following the beautiful east coast route along the clifftops and weaving through picturesque towns and lush green countryside, these routes offer  spectacular sea views! On this train, the journey is as important as your destination.

Trains from Edinburgh cross the iconic Forth Bridge, as the train steams north out of the capital. Ticket prices start from £115 for an unforgettable return journey to the Granite City.

Off-train excursions are available on arrival in Aberdeen, including a visit to a local distillery or National Trust for Scotland castle, if you would like to explore more of Aberdeenshire.

On board the train

Authentic mid-century carriages offer that hit of nostalgia. There are three classes of travel to choose from:

·       Tourist Class offers a great day out for all, from families to our four-pawed companions! All seats on board the train are next to large picture windows, perfect for taking in the stunning views! There is an onboard buffet car serving snacks and refreshments throughout the journey, or passengers may wish to pack a picnic to enjoy on board at their table.

·       First Class is the way to travel if you would like a compartment, reminiscent of the train to Hogwarts. Relax into your richly upholstered seat, as regular hot drinks and light snacks are served throughout the journey.

·       Premier Dining gives a true taste of luxury and reserves a place in a first-class carriage where a table set with a white cloth awaits, together with comfortable armchair style seats. Passengers are greeted with a glass of fizz before a hearty Scottish breakfast is served. On the return journey, the onboard chef prepares a sumptuous four-course supper, which champions local produce. This surely must be the ultimate way to explore the Scottish East Coast!

About the steam locomotive

Named Tornado, the impressive green locomotive is a traditional steam engine – with the sights, sounds and smells of yesteryear!

It is the only mainline steam locomotive built in the UK in the last 60 years, and was first steaming in 2008. Freshly out of an overhaul, it will be looking splendid for the summer!

Claim to fame

You will be in good company as Tornado is also a star of the big screen, appearing in Paddington 2 and on TV’s Top Gear, with Jeremy Clarkson firing it along the route from London to Edinburgh.

Not forgetting that it’s also a record breaker, becoming the only steam train to reach 100mph since the 1960s!
